I was just browsing around and came across some sites which use names that are shifted around from the originial. For example, eWebtalk..becomes Talk eWeb. They don't even try to change the style of the words let alone choose something unique. It wouldn't matter if it was different industries...but what about if they are in the same one?
Do you think following such strategy is of any value..and what about ethics?

^I'd figure you would do this. It was just something that we thought was interesting, and didnt think much of it until it was actually done.

If you're referring to registering these types of domains for your own company to use as addon domains then I think it's an ok investment, of course once the more beneficial investments are taken care of.

Well those aren't the only techniques people use. I've had people try to buy out www.fpcyberdesign.com and use it to get my clientel. I ended up buying it off the owner because it made some bad publicity on my behalf. As well I had someone else attempt to make a mokery of my soon to open cy-Mall, by registering similar names and giving it bad publicity. People don't only do it for publicity, but they do it to attempt to use you for their own benefits.

Ohh, I see what you're saying now. Yea, it's unprofessional and unethical to run a business with intentions of benefiting from someone else's name. Remember MikeRowSoft? lol

Yes I do remember that, but to some extent he was fine with that, since it is his name.

True, but then maybe he should have registered mikerowsoft.name instead.

That could of been an issue at the time, I have no idea how long the .name domain exists. So if he got his .com before .name existed then he wasn't exactly at fault.

It's a bad idea period. I mean if you can't even be creative enough to actually create a unique name, what does that say about the website or business you plan to run...
P.S: mikerowsoft is awesome

I remember trying to think of a new hosting name... I build a list of around 25 names I thought WONT be register - turns out they all were. I mean I hit the dictionary, and even some science books, it's riduclous. But what really ticks me off is when you have a .com and someone goes and takes the .net....
